John Quincy Adams, the 6th President of the United States married Louisa Catherine Johnson in a ceremony at the church of All Hallows-by-the-Tower, London in 1797. He was serving abroad at that time. Louisa was the daughter of a poor American trader. Louisa was the first woman to marry the President of the United States and become a first lady being born outside of the United States. This exceptional instance was the only one until 2017 when Donald Trump became the president of the United States as Melania Trump, the current first lady was also born outside of the United States.
